Bench / Table 2009
Oak and reclaimed Wenge
Designed as a bench, also functions well as a coffee table.
Based on the modular unit of the parquet floor block from which it is made, the bench is part of my body of work with cork, oak and wenge. Influenced in part by Poul Kjaerholm's upholstered day bed (PK80) from the 1950's, this bench is based on two simple wooden frameworks which hold the parquet blocks and create a structure for the legs. I tried to get some definition between the form of the top horizontal surface and the supporting framework of the legs below.
