Cherry Chest of drawers
Primrose Hill, London. 2007
American Cherry, Maple, Birch plywood
My client wanted a small chest to fit into an alcove made from Maple and Cherry, using the woods contrasting colours in the design. For this piece I began by carefully resawing the cherry to create the book matched pattern that runs horizontally across the front of each drawer. The top is also solid Cherry and I used Maple as a detail to joint the boards together and for the drawer handles. The internals of the drawers are made with Birch plywood and my client and I decided to make a feature out the plywood where it is jointed to the drawer fronts down the sides of the chest.
